At the new(er) Portside Pier complex that replaced the iconic Anthony’s Fish Grotto on the Embarcadero is Ketch Grill & Taps.
It’s a casual restaurant on the second level with great views of the harbor and, from what I could tell, all of the seating is outdoors under umbrellas or canopies. There’s a small bar area that you could sit at; standard tables; and a few sofas with coffee tables between them.
A friend and I visited for lunch at noon on a Thursday, and there was plenty of seating available. We were even surprised by the amount of metered parking available along Harbor Drive at that time of day.
I ordered the Ketch Club sandwich which comes with two sides, and I chose the coleslaw and potato salad. The club sandwich wasn’t in the traditional form, rather it was served on a bun which was no big deal. It was tasty. The potato salad was served warm and quite different from any other potato salad that I’ve had—in a good way.
I didn’t count the number of craft beers they had available on the menu, but I’m guessing it was in the 12-15 different beers range.
Our server was friendly without being intrusive, and he offered up some suggestions on the different beers available and the food.
The sandwich, two beers, and tax and tip was $45.00.
Ketch Grill & Taps is a great place to sit back, enjoy the view, and enjoy a meal or a few beverages, but given the cost, it may be better suited for a special treat instead of an everyday hangout.
