Hillcrest Farmers Market

If you’re looking for something to do on a Sunday in San Diego, you may want to check out the Hillcrest Farmers Market, San Diego’s largest.

There are dozens of vendors who offer fresh produce; bakery items; specialty and pre-packaged foods; prepared foods; arts and crafts; and beverages. (Use the link to see which vendors are scheduled for each week.) The market makes it very easy for you to stock up on your fresh produce or to enjoy a meal. If you’re on the hunt for some hand-made jewelry, wood carvings, or some new clothes, you can find that there, too.

The market is quite popular, so if you want the best selection of items, it’s better to go early and bring your patience to navigate through the crowd. Despite its popularity, it still retains a very chill neighborhood vibe to it.

Fresh Produce

Many vendors sell a wide variety of fresh produce, flowers, and living plants—both houseplants and fresh herbs. Much of what’s available is organic and locally sourced.

Prepared Food

You’ll be able to find a wide variety of prepared foods if you want a late Sunday breakfast or early lunch. You’ll find things like seafood, amped up grilled cheese sandwiches, crepes, tamales, ceviche, Creole cuisine, and even east African cuisine. In other words, there’s food for almost every taste.

Some of the vendors have set up stand-up tables for you to eat your food at, but many don’t, so you’ll just have to find a spot out of the way to enjoy your meal.
