Ono’s Cafe – Island Style Bistro

I’ve probably driven past this little strip mall in Bonita dozens of times, but never really had any reason to stop. Now I do.

Ono’s Cafe is a pleasant little restaurant serving up fresh dishes that they describe as “Pacific Rim and Cal-Asian fusion flavors.” The decor goes for an island vibe without being over the top or kitsch, and the staff welcomed us as first-timers, offering up their best suggestions from the menu.

Their extensive menu takes you around the Pacific with lumpia from the Philippines to bulgogi from Korea and even Spam musubi from Hawaii. There are over 40 sushi, sashimi, and nagiri items on the menu, as well as some decadent desserts like molten lava cake. I opted for the seared ahi salad ($13) which was very fresh and tasty.

They offer a Sunday Islander Brunch from 9 a.m. to noon and a daily happy hour from 4 p.m.–7 p.m. with discounted food and drinks.

We arrived at 5 p.m. on a Saturday night, and there was no problem with seating (they do accept reservations). Our server let us linger in conversation well after our food was gone.

For a relaxing evening over some great food from around the Pacific, check out Ono’s Cafe.
