Cafe 1134 is a cozy, popular neighborhood bistro that serves a wide variety of items for breakfast, lunch, and dinner right in the heart of downtown Coronado.

A friend called me Saturday morning and asked if I wanted to join her for a stroll on the beach in Coronado and maybe a cup of coffee afterwards. After walking the length of the beach, we headed up Orange Avenue and stumbled across Cafe 1134.

We could tell how popular it was just by how many people were enjoying a mid-morning breakfast there. There was a line at the counter where you placed your order, but it moved quickly, and we were able to find a window-front table for two. There was seating up in a mezzanine and in a small courtyard behind the restaurant as well.

I had already had breakfast at home before the walk, so I just opted for a bottle of cranberry juice and an orange. My friend had a bagel and cream cheese with her Kona coffee (which she said was delicious).  Looking at the breakfast plates being served to the tables around us, many looked enticing. The lunch/dinner menu includes salads, sandwiches, wraps, and paninis.

Cafe 1134 has a great local, relaxed vibe to it and it’s worth exploring. Next time, I’ll try something more substantial on the menu.

Tips: Street parking is metered and can be a challenge to find on busy weekend days. You may have to park on the side streets in the neighborhood.
